Stopping criteria for genetic improvement software for beef-cattle mating selection

Abstract The objective of this work was to propose a new stopping criterion shorten the computing time PampaPlus genetic improvement software, while maximizing qualification index (GQI) progeny, controlling inbreeding, and avoiding unintended culling. Data from two beef-cattle herds integrating were used. Five mating scenarios built using different numbers sires (9 37) dams (142 568). analyzed algorithm inputs were: expected progeny differences, pedigree information, maximum minimum number matches for each sire, penalty weights poor performance. response variables GQI progenies. Three criteria used: original fixed at 1,000 iterations; saturation (SSC), based on variance; Bhandari’s (BSC), which includes generation interval parameter. SSC BSC reduced processing in 24.43-53.64% 14.32-50.87%, respectively. reaches solution less time, without losses quality. is generalizable effective reduce recommendations.
